This Capitol EMI audio is superior,too bad their studio works don't compare to this. This disc is loaded with the "Heats" elite tracks,"On The Road Again","Goin' Up The Country","Time Was","Future Blues","Human Condition", and the uncut eleven minute version of "Fried Hockey Boogie".
Influenced by some of the great bluesman,Tommy Johnson,Skip James,Elmore James,John Lee Hooker,Tommy McClennan, along with numerous others, the Canned Heat band left their definite mark on the genre. Well educated in the blues,this boogie band never received the notoriety they deserved.
Both Hite and Wilson were great contributors to the blues. These talented musicians were well ahead of their time,just like The Doors,with the exception of The Doors had Morrison.
Bob Hite was just an adequate singer and better live,Alan Wilson was a very unique vocalist,a cross between Neil Young and Skip James. There's nineteen songs in all including three good live cuts recorded at the Monterey Pop festival in 1967,"Dust My Broom","Rollin' And Tumblin'","Bull Frog Blues".
Canned Heat,never a dull moment.
Although I've been a fan of canned heat since 67, with this album I digress. The copy protection is such you can not put it on your computer or ZUNE and I assume other devices like SANSA FUSE, or IPOD because of copy protection. Solution, buy from a junk store an old cd player if they still work to listen to the cd if not I suggest you find another copy for less that works.
This is great I was looking for a Canned Heat CD with a good selection of blues and this one works for me.The remastered sound is great too. If you don`t have the latest Woodstock DVD set you might want to get it for the extra disc that has Canned Heat.
This is a 1 CD Set:I bought this CD for only 2 Songs that I dearly Love and can't 'Git Enough Of' namely "Going Up The Country" and "On The Road Again". MOST EXCELLENT recordings by the Original Canned Heat Members. I Rate this CD a 'BUY' and a "5 Star" based just on these 2 songs.It's Great Music when I'm driving 'On The Road (again)' in my Black 2008 Silverado Z71, 4 Wheel Drive, Pickup Truck with the windows rolled down and my BOSE Speakers turned up. Other drivers compliment me on the music.I don't listen to any of the other songs that are on the CD.
I will try to be brief. If you have read the other excellent reviews of this bands work on this 2CD set, and the EMI "The Very Best of Canned Heat"---You will know already that this is one of the best Boogie Bands ever that never compromised its not only wanting, but needing to not give in to more current commerical styes. That alone says a lotThis really showed on "Going up the Country-a re-wording of an old blues song that was impossible to find until you heard that it came from the blues of old- the main example is "Going Up The Country""Let's Work Together" was a great version of a Wilbert Harrison who had his hit on the radio at close to the same time and both di very well.One reason that this band really rocks and lives on every song that they recorded and play is that at least Alan Wilson and Bob Hite were fanatical (sp) Record Collectors- they lived and breathed this musicIt is said that Bob Hite had one of the best record collections in the worldSo, enough about the band- This 2 CD Comp compiles the best of Canned Heat that you will ever get-Period, with NO filler- The sound is fantastic--and stands up well to the single CD mentioned aboveThe real difference is if you are a fan at all - you need to have this CD now- and if you like this style of Boogie, Rockin' Blues- you just need more of it.It is out of print so get it at a good price right hereThe Single CD is an excellent compiliation of songs for those who want to get a little taste of their "Canned Heat" (no pun intended) or like their excellent compiled 1 CD versionEither way, as all of the reviewers have stated better than I- I just wanted to let you know that I agree with all of them that gave this 5 starsBilly Boy.
